File - GroupCharter

Welcome to the Biodiesel Yahoo Group!

We hope you enjoy your stay here.
We have a wonderful group of people interested in biodiesel with several that have been making biodiesel for several years and are alway's willing to help.

Feel free to ask any question here and within hours you'll have a response.

Also, be sure to stop by our links section, as we're constantly adding great links there.

Our goal is to help you get up to speed with biodiesel as fast as you'd like and give you the information needed to allow you to be able to use it, possibly brew it, and to be able to share more about this great renewable alternative to
diesel fuel with others.

We do have a few rules here.
1- Keep all politics out of the forum.
2- Keep all posts "family friendly"
(ie. no swearing or sexually explicit language)
3- Keep all "personal attacks" out of the forum. Antagonistic messages will result in you being moderated or potentially banned from the forum.
4- Keep your message related to Biodiesel - no "me too" messages, grammar corrections or telling people what theyshould and shouldn't post. That's the moderators job.
5- If you have a problem with someone on the list, email them privately rather than posting to the list. You may also email the moderators to look into a situation. Our address is biodiesel-owner@yahoogroups.com.
6 - If you SPAM the list with non-topical commercial or other email (such as a chain letter) you will be banned.

Other than the rules above, we encourage you to participate as much as possible.

We also have a few abbreviations that are commonly used here.
Here's a brief synopsis of what they are and what they mean:
Biodiesel = An alternative fuel to diesel fuel that is made
by chemically altering an organic oil, typically
waste vegetable oil
BD = An acronym for Biodiesel
WVO = Waste Vegetable Oil
(referring to what we use to make biodiesel with,
usually obtained from restaraunts)
SVO = Straight Vegetable Oil
(refers to using vegetable oil straight in a diesel engine
without chemically altering it)
KOH = Potassium Hydroxide
(KOH is one kind of reactant we use to chemically
alter vegetable oil to convert it to biodiesel)
NaOH = Sodium Hydroxide
(NaOH is the other reactant that we use to
chemically alter vegetable oil to convert it to biodiesel)
Methanol = Methanol is the alcohol most commonly used to
chemically alter vegetable oil to convert it to biodiesel
Ethanol = Ethanol is another alcohol that can also be used to
chemically alter vegetable oil to convert it to biodiesel.
Glycerin = The byproduct produced when making biodiesel

Once again, thanks for joining the group and we hope you enjoy your stay!
